Roses, Trims & Vellum

Early this week, I got a kick out of making ribbon roses. I used to have this sudden interest and then it died down and now it's back again. Not sure why. I don't really like to have an embellishment that is too 3D like because it will be difficult to fit into an envelope. But I guess some cards are not meant to have an envelope. I don't know if that makes sense.

Anyway, I held a giveaway recently and I was surprised at how many people liked the design so much so I had a request for a similar card too. That was where the frustration comes in. Not in terms of a second unplanned giveaway (because I'm that nice..ha!) but because I had trouble making another DIY ribbon. Go figure. I watched countless of videos and I don't know why how what..I just can't make another rose! :(

But I guess practice makes perfect.

This was the first card I made..

To be honest, I nearly threw the ribbon away because I thought it was ruined but I managed to salvage it. The rest of the card, I kept layering to a minimum and went about hand cutting a banner, a tip I picked up from another blog, and used up scraps of paper as well.

This was the second card I made.

I actually replaced the original flower made from felt fabric with this purple satin ribbon rose. I got the roll of satin ribbon for just $2.00! And it's a one inch width ribbon, perfect for making this size of ribbons.

I also made use of vellum, you know the piece of transparent or glass paper, typically used on a wedding card, but this time I used it for this card for the soft look. It's lifted at the corner to show you how the layering is like. Oh, this is available for sales if you click here at an offer price. I would call this a premium card, meaning to say that it is not my average handmade card.

Speaking of premium cards, I will be doing a giveaway of a premium card in a later post.

Oh yes speaking of giveaway, after being frustrated for not making a perfect ribbon rose, I decided to use one of the fabric flowers on a trim instead, given to me FREE when I purchased some pompom trims from her :)

So cute!

These are the pompoms I got ^ ^ Yay, been looking for it. And she's selling at just $1.00 per yard including postage. Whoa, me happy.

Some of the pompom trims and fabric flowers
Another one of my creations using the pompom trims. A custom cover notebook which I had actually decorated a long time ago but had refurbished it. This is also available for sales here at a discounted price :)
