Craft Haul for June 2013 - Part 1

Hi, this is a little known fact. I buy more stuffs right after my pay day. But then again, don't we all..haha. Unless of course you always have a nice extra stash of cash somewhere. I wish I could be in that stage of freedom to buy what I want..well, almost. Right now, I'm still trying to build my emergency fund.

So yah, because I'm a crafter on a small budget, I look for discounted things online but locally because I don't want to pay the ridiculous shipping price. Just few days ago, after pay day of course, I dropped by a LSS or a local scrapbooking store because it was having 30% off for members if you buy in a set of three items. Of course I would make use of the discount. Only thing was, I took an extra item which cost only $4.60 and then I had to get another two items to make up another set of 3. Erm, I wasn't planning to get two sets but oh well. I think I got sucked in to their marketing strategy..hrmph.

So total damage: $48.20.

I saved more than $20.00 so it's er..justified? I usually spend below $30 and on days where I need to scrimp and save, below $20.00 even.

I actually bought two things that I have bought before and they have restocked the items again. It's from the Dear Lizzy collections. I love her collections because it's so dreamy and whimsical. Plus I like die cuts and printed chipboards because they're pretty easy to use and co-ordinate.

I was quite torn about the enamel dots because I got two already from a previous collections which I got it at a discount. But they're so hard to find and often out of stock so I thought I would get one more pack. It was selling at $9.90. OMG. So ex. Oh, a little back story about the Dear Lizzy chipboards. I almost got it from the LSS but I was taken aback by the price of $9.90 and I saw at Nex Popular for $7.90 so I got it from there the next day. That's $2.00 difference and it's pretty ridonkulous. I know I have the member's discount but I don't think I would get the price of $7.90 so I had to place it back.

Wow, if the prices keep increasing, I may have to only buy when they offer more than the usual member's discount. I would rather spend the money on new clothes and buying food for the fam. Plus the thing is, now most of the items are made in China even though they are American brands so surely they can cut the cost since they're using cheap labour? I dunno.

Moving on..

Simple Stories Vintage Bliss Journal Paper & Dear Lizzy Lucky Charms 12 X 12 Paper

I should have bought two sets of the journal paper because both A and B sides are usable and has nice prints. Maybe, in my next trip. Now this one, I regret putting one of them back..haha. I got the Dear Lizzy 12 X 12 paper from Nex Popular. I like the musical print. Their packaging sucks so the paper is a little crumply.

If you're a paper crafter like me, what do you think of the increasing prices? Where do you normally get your stuffs?

I think for me, because I earn some money out of this hobby making cards and such, it isn't so bad. I don't earn money from doing stuffs like layouts because it's a personal hobby of scrapping printed photos. But for those who are doing this solely for hobby such as smashing or scrapbooking, well I guess we have to be creative in looking out for the best prices.

I believe you don't have to always patronize the LSS but you can recycle things like cut out pictures from magazine articles, which I used this method before by the way, or make use of cheap embellishments like sequins, buttons and ribbons which you can buy in bulk and scrap your way through. You can make use of paint too to add some depth to your paper. The point is to keep beautiful memories for yourself and for your future family members like your children and grandchildren :)
